Serving breakfast for the homeless with dignity and respect [NEWS]

We are often familiar with the soup kitchen for the homeless concept. But for Jubilee Cafe founder, Joe Alford, he wanted to create "a place where they're treated with dignity and respect."

The Jubilee Cafe is located in city Lawrence, Kansas, USA as a restaurant that serves breakfast for the homeless. It is entirely run by student volunteers and serves about 160 per week. Students arrive at 5am and food are served at 7am.

Unlike the usual buffet, at Jubilee Cafe, breakfast is served restaurant style. Guests come in, sit down and order the food that they want. It is all about treating the homeless with dignity and respect.

"When you say good morning or hello and bring this person a cup of coffee, it may be the nicest thing that happens to them all week," said Alford.

One guest Richard Fawcett said, "It's definitely also really nice to be able to come in here and have a cup of coffee and some breakfast before we get started for our day."
