Well, if you're also doing a bit of career planning, here's a little diagram that I found that neatly summarizes my approach to career planning in one diagram.
And the goal in life? To move towards the center of the diagram :-)

I think my key take-aways are:
1. Don't just judge a career just by what pays well. It's easy to choose between careers this way - but are you doing yourself a disservice? Because even if you find something that will pay you well - is this something that you want to do in the long run and something that you can excel in?
2. Just because you're good at something, doesn't mean that should be what you pursue as your career. What happens if you discover it's not what you want to do at the end of the day?
3. What you love to do is supreme. So don't be trapped by dogma. There's only 1 of you in all of existence, don't waste that only 1 by being somebody else.
