It's funny when certain people have this perception that I am a happy-go-lucky person and they will immediately give me this funny look when I say I can be quite the opposite.
Oh wait... I am the founder of motivationMY.com... so I should be happy all the time, living life to the fullest and walking around with a smile... right?
Wrong. I am just like anyone else. I have my ups and I have my downs too. But at the end of the day, it's how we view life.
It's like the glass half-empty and half-full debate. In terms of the "measurement", it is the same but then, it's about which do you focus on: the empty bit or the full bit? Do you want to be positive or negative?
Reading The Star's Deputy Executive Editor Soo Ewe Jin's Sunday Starters column entitled "Half-full, half-empty or no cup" best sums what I want to talk about here.
He writes, "Life, as we know it, is not a bed of roses. A rose, beautiful though it may be as a flower, also comes with thorns. But I have always been amazed by people who refuse to let the thorns get in the way. They navigate through trials and tribulations be it a medical ailment, a broken relationship or a lost job and emerge stronger."
There are people that's the exact opposite. For example, they're in a rather difficult situation. Instead of gathering positive energy and positive thoughts to improve the situation, they just give up and blame the situation, blame themselves and even worse, they blame the people around them.
Soo Ewe Jin's column also mentioned about a post entitled "Make Yourself Miserable" by Jonathan L. Huie. Here are 10 tips how you can make your life miserable:
- Be Envious
- Be Jealous
- Be Ungrateful
- Think Negatively About Yourself
- Refuse Help From Others
- Be Sure That You Know Better Than Anyone Else
- Hold Grudges
- Be Resentful
- Convince Yourself That Others Are Out To Get You
- Plot Revenge
At the other end of the spectrum, it takes some deep reflection (and some quiet moment!) to think positive, being able to take responsibility for both the good and the bad in our own life. Why lead life miserably when you can enjoy and have fun?
Again, it is all about choices. I'm sure we've heard about self-help gurus telling us to shift your energy to the right places.
If you want to stay miserable... you can do so! No one is stopping you. If you want to stay happy and positive... you can do so as well.
Life is not perfect but there must be something good in every situation right? Only by being positive, can we elevate our self and our life to more bigger and better opportunities.
