My Best Advice... by Aidid Marcello / @aidid_marcello

Hey everyone!

This is @syafique and I am back with the My Best Advice section. Well, let me honestly say that compiling this section is not a piece of cake! Sometimes I don't even hear from the personalities for months and it makes me wonder... "Did you even get my email to begin with?"

But it is a different case for TV personalilty Aidid Marcello. He remembers the email but due to this travelling, it was hard for him to reply my email. So I told him, "Let's do a phone interview!!" and he agreed. This is the first phone interview for My Best Advice as it is usually done via email.

I personally think Aidid Marcello needs no introduction as he is a big name in this broadcasting industry. At only 32, he is currently an Executive Producer at TV3 and also the host for TV3's MyTV3 & Soccerkids and TV9's SOS & VERSUS. That's right - 4 shows!!

So what is Aidid Marcello's BEST ADVICE? Read on!

MY BEST ADVICE ON... STARTING A NEW PROJECT
If you're starting a new project - like a business - know what you want to do. Have a clear target and direction. There's no use if you don't know what do. Once you have a target, just do whatever it takes to reach that target.

Do a lot of homework and research. You can always Google! If you feel something has been done elsewhere but not in Malaysia, give it a go! Malaysian-ise the concept. Don't be scared to try something new. Be confident!

MY BEST ADVICE ON... BEING UNIQUE
Don't follow people. People may say you're "weird" but that's the whole point of being "unique".

A situation where being unique is necessary is at a job interview. For example, there will be books that will teach you "How to be your self" but that can be too cliche. Keep it spontaneous. You don't necessarily have to follow the "book".

MY BEST ADVICE ON... LIFE'S CHALLENGES
You will face many challenges but never, ever give up. Obviously, if things go wrong, it's easy to get demotivated. The best solution is to analyze what you did wrong and to change your style. Never ever give up but differentiate your way or style so that you won't make the same mistakes twice.

ADDITIONAL QUESTION: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU'VE FACED AS A TELEVISION EXECUTIVE PRODUCER AND HOST?
As an Executive Producer, I am happy to be working with a young team as I am able to broaden their knowledge.

As a host, I face more challenges due to the nature of my show. I've done the following:

  1. Parachute jump at 5000 feet
  2. Shark diving
  3. Climbing Mt Kinabalu four times

I have also done many shows i.e. Entertainment, Sports, Magazine and LIVE shows. The challenge is to have different personalities to suit the respective shows.

MY BEST ADVICE ON... FRIENDSHIP (OR RELATIONSHIP)
Simple! Be honest and transparent. Never be the person to say good things about your friends in front of them only to say bad things about them behind their back.

MY BEST ADVICE ON... MAKING A DIFFERENCE
With Social Media such as Facebook and Twitter, we are able to share our life experiences. We may have gone thru ups and downs and just by sharing our experiences, we are making a difference, if it's just to one person.

But then again... it all starts with the effort. We can be technologically advance but there's no point if we don't make any effort to do any good.

connect. socialize. share.
